Religions Seeking New Members (proselytizing)
OBSERVED PHENOMENON:
Proselytizing: To induce someone to convert to one's own religious faith.
People approach you intent on getting you to join their religion (Jehovah's Witness, Mormons...). But when you ask them what you should DO to prevent the white supremacists from harming you; they say you should "leave it up to God because God will solve all your problems.
HYPOTHESIS:
Most religions do not have any effective suggestions for preventing the white supremacists from harming you; nor are they interested in producing any. Many religions are only interested in making sure you go to heaven after the white supremacists kill you.
EXPERIMENT:
When approached by people intent on getting you to join their religion, ask them the following questions:
1. What does your religion REQUIRE I do to PREVENT the white supremacists from harming me?
2. What does your religion REQUIRE I do to PREVENT the white supremacists from harming another nonwhite person?
3. What does your religion REQUIRE a white person to do to PREVENT a white supremacists from PRACTICING racism?
EXPECTED RESULTS:
The proselytizer will do one or more of the following:
1. Tell you not to do anything because "that's God's work"; "God will take care of it..."
2. Show you some scripture that confirms the existence of unjust people and wickedness...
3. Tell you to have faith that ONE DAY God will punish the white supremacists.
4. Invite you to their church for further discussion.
ANALYSIS:
People who approach you intent on getting you to join their religion (proselytizing) have the goal of doing just that; GETTING YOU TO JOIN THEIR RELIGION. They do not have the goal of providing effective suggestions for preventing the white supremacists from harming you; nor are they interested in producing any.
Your religion should prevent you from being harmed.
If you don't have one, go find one.
If you can't find one,
Make one up.
